Imagist Poems
I
Black Board
A night of bluish-black,
Or grayish green,
Streaked with wisps of white,
Spread with the delicacy of mist.
II
Chair on Table
Metal legs propped up in the air,
Like a tripod on its back,
Green shell, a beetle’s thick underside,
Dull and pale.
III
Floor
Boxes of wonders on the blue and grey sea,
Dirt and dust,
And all other signs of life.
IV
Tree
Wrinkles built into hardened flesh,
Singing against tender palms.
I hang from the arms of eternity,
A blanket below, a canopy above.
V
Keyboard
Black step stones,
Warriors in their ordered rows,
J and F, leaders of the flock,
Bearing scars of war.
